Chiropractor & Clinic Director

Dr. John is originally from Sheboygan Falls and suffered a severe injury one fateful morning during his senior year of high school. While sledding at Rochester Park, he went off a ramp and landed in a seated position which forever changed his life. An ambulance ride to the hospital ensued as well as the diagnosis of a 'back sprain'. After a week of no school and no less pain, he went back to the hospital and found out that he actually fractured a vertebrae. He was then put into a fitted plastic brace that went from his tailbone to his lower neck. His brace was worn consistently for the next month except while sleeping. As a funny tidbit, the part of this experience he remembers the most was his inability to bend forward and being an 18 year old having to have his Mom help in the shower. OY!!  After one month, he was told that he was fine and that he didn't need to do anything else to care for his back. 

 

Wanting to help people, he went to undergraduate school at UW-La Crosse and was planning on a pre-med or physical therapy path until he was advised to see a person called a Chiropractor. Dr. John had never heard of Chiropractic before but he ended up seeing one in La Crosse and that Doctor of Chiropractic changed his life! In turn it also changed the lives of everyone he sees today as he immediately knew he wanted to become a Chiropractor. Dr. John went to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa, where Chiropractic all started in 1895, and returned home to make a difference.

 

Dr. John has chosen to become very well-rounded so that he can help all types of people reach their goals. For example, he holds certifications in golf, whiplash, and nutrition and has extensive training in exercise rehabilitation and exercise training. Dr. John believes health is a combination of physical health, nutritional health, and mental health. At Better Life, we look at the whole body and the entire picture.

Dr. Cooper loves that as a chiropractor he can get up every day and enjoy going to work because he has a strong desire to help people and to make a real difference in their quality of life.

 

With a desire to make a difference, Dr. Cooper attended the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire where he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology. He then went on to complete his degree as a Doctor of Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and graduated in 2021.

 

Wanting to be closer to family, Dr. Cooper was happy to find a place to call home in Sheboygan. He grew up in the Green Bay area in a family of five with three brothers and a strong love for sports. He enjoys watching the Packers, Bucks, and other Wisconsin sports teams and is excited to be close to the live action.

 

When not at the office, Dr. Cooper likes to spend time with his family, work out, play video games, watch sports, and engage in outdoor activities. With all that Sheboygan has to offer, he knows he will always have something to do he enjoys!

 

Dr. Cooper is excited to move back to Wisconsin and to treat the community of Sheboygan as a member of the Better Life Team. Dr. Cooper has always had a passion for helping others and has found chiropractic is the perfect way to help people live their most optimal and pain free life.

You will frequently see Dr. John’s wife, Kristi, in the office. Dr. Kristi Shaw Reitz is heavily involved in patient education, she does a lot of the behind the scenes work, and also runs our Better Life Zerona Treatment Program. At times, you will find her helping out at the Front Desk.

Prior to meeting Dr. John, Kristi had been to only one chiropractor for a short period of time. Unfortunately, that chiropractor didn’t educate her in chiropractic care. It wasn’t until she was dating Dr. John when she truly understood the importance of chiropractic care and benefited from corrective care. At the time, Kristi was running quite a bit and was experiencing terrible hip pain. She also suffered from plantar fasciitis on and off for about eight years. Fortunately, she was able to find relief through chiropractic care. 

Dr. Kristi Reitz earned her PhD in Instructional Design for Online Learning and completed her dissertation on instructional design within iTunes U. She earned her master of arts degree from Marian University in Educational Technology and her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. 

Dr. Reitz has worked in the education field for 15 years. She has spent the bulk of her career in higher education. Prior to her time in higher education, Kristi taught middle school math and spent four years teaching elementary and middle school technology literacy and coaching teachers in technology integration. At Marian University, she served as the Chair of Teacher Education and Program Director of the Educational Technology Program. She taught numerous courses in the Educational Technology Program, as well as the Undergraduate and Graduate Teacher Education Programs. Kristi’s research interests include instructional coaching, technology integration, and instructional design. She has presented at multiple state, national, and international educational conferences throughout her career. 

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, grocery shopping, cooking, decorating the office, hiking, camping, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, reading, gardening, yoga, and paddle boarding on Lake Michigan. She has also taken up backpacking and is looking forward to spending extended time in the woods!
